A „SIT” training course took place 1-7 of July 2009 in El Altet, Spain. There were representatives from Macedonian, Croatian, Hungarian, Czech, Serbian, Lithuanian, Italian, Armenian, Spanish and Polish organizations. Everything was prepared and organized by our good friend Edu and his organization: ACD La Hoya.
It was a magnificent idea to use something as usual as a chair. Just then we realized how different chairs are and how many ways of using them there are.
It was a wonderful experience to be able to visit nearby Elche, the city of the palm trees (the rumor says there are more palm trees than people in the city, which would be over 200.000). Our task was to establish whether the city is friendly for disabled people. We were role playing, some of us became wheelchair users, some became blind, others deaf, armless and their guardians. It's incredible how hard it is to do the simple things like shopping, using the payphone or a cash machine, finding our way etc. Just try to do it sitting on a wheelchair, having your eyes covered or being unable to talk and you'll understand how different world it is. But we can try to change it.
