I called it "an ecological race". It is not the best name, but I wanted to show how big the problem is littering the environment, segregating waste and reusing it, or recycling.
And I did it in a somewhat unusual way. On May 31, 2009, as part of the "Rudder of Bydgoszcz" event on the Brda River, I organized a race of two "water rafts". Each of them was made of 210 2.5 liters of empty beverage bottles, which were joined by an adhesive tape and a "stretch" foil. It gave them adequate flexibility and endurance, and during the trials at the pool to determine their displacement I could not believe my eyes: over 450 kg each. For this I added paddles made of shovels and plastic boards for cutting vegetables. You probably wonder why such materials? It was about the possibility of their re-use and the fact that in the event of the rafts falling apart, it would not sink, i.e. not litter the river. And the drive was supposed to be only the strength of human muscles.
It was not about winning at all costs and that's why the fun was ahead.
Already, I invite you next year for the next ones, in a larger cast of races.
