LAUDATO SI' - local workshops - Bydgoszcz / Poland

Is the world seen through adults' eyes different from the eyes of those who have this adulthood before them? Can and what can we and should we do to perceive the surrounding reality as a common good? Should the Catholic Church deal with ecology-related issues? Why, as Catholics, should we deal with the climate? Pope Francis has already answered these and many other questions in his encyclical "Laudato Si".

Caritas of the Diocese of Bydgoszcz joined as a representative of the 12th diocese, which takes part in the nationwide project Caritas Polska "Integral Ecology of the Encyclical Laudato Si in the operation of Caritas communities and local communities".

The 2nd edition of the Caritas School Teams competition for ecological initiatives for activities undertaken for the sake of a shared home is underway. And these are topics ranging from air pollution, to food waste, waste sorting and recycling.

The workshops that took place in the hospitable thresholds of the Major Seminary in Bydgoszcz gathered those who are not indifferent to what the environment in which we will live in the coming years will look. Teachers and students from schools in Bydgoszcz, Niemcz, Samsiecznie, Nakła, Sławianów, Kleszczyny, and Rynarzewo planned specific actions together.

The participation and support of the national animator of the Frier Cordian project and the lecture of the expert Emilia Ślimko introducing the scientific aspect of environmental and climate protection was a great help for them.

It promises to be really interesting and I can't wait for the results. Now all ideas need to be worked out, submitted to the competition and wait for the result. The top 5 projects will receive grants of 4,000 PLN.

It is a great satisfaction for me that I joined this unique project and I will coordinate local activities in the Bydgoszcz Diocese, using my existing activities related to environmental protection and the promotion of waste segregation and recycling. I hope that I will also gain more experience that will allow me to look even wider and deeper at the problems affecting our planet.

Finally, I would like to thank the director of Caritas of the Bydgoszcz Diocese, Father. Prelate Wojciech Przybyła and Agnieszka Amrosz from Caritas of the Bydgoszcz Diocese for help and great support in organizing these workshops.

The project "Integral ecology of the encyclical Laudato si' in the operation of Caritas communities and local communities", implemented by Caritas Polska, has been co-financed by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management.
